The team at Gold Coast Doulas has grown tremendously from four doulas at our launch in October of 2015 to 13 today. We also added a Placenta Encapsulator, an Infant Massage Instructor, and a Board Certified Lactation Consultant who offers in-home and office visits.
Our 13 doulas consist of four teams of birth doulas and eight postpartum doulas (there is overlap as some do both). One of our doulas is also our Multiples Expert. As a birth and postpartum doula and mother of twins, she is a wealth of knowledge for new parents of multiples.
We have doulas from Rockford to Kalamazoo, serving all of Grand Rapids and our Lakeshore communities.
Gold Coast expanded our educational offerings by including the following classes: The Modern Grandparent, Back to Work Pumping & Bottle Feeding, Infant Massage, Breastfeeding: Prepare with Confidence, Newborn Survival, HypnoBirthing, and Preparing for Multiples. Our goal is to be your home for support from conception through the first year.
In January of 2017, Alyssa Veneklase, Certified Postpartum Doula, joined the Gold Coast team as the new Co-Owner with Kristin Revere. She added gentle sleep consultations to the Gold Coast Service list as well.
We spent time giving back to the community as our doulas volunteered for the March of Dimes and the Healthy Kent Breastfeeding Coalition. We donated funds to support the work of Ele’s Place, Metro Health Foundation and MomsBloom. Gold Coast was an early supporter of Mothership and three of our team members attended their inaugural training. We held our 2nd Annual Diaper Drive for Nestlings Diaper Bank with our partnered collection drop off locations. We collected 13,337 disposable and cloth; 223 cloth inserts and 166 packages of wipes.
We worked with Simply Born Midwifery Services to bring “When The Bough Breaks” to the historic Wealthy Theatre. We had an engaged audience and a wonderful panel of experts to speak on postpartum depression and psychosis. We already are working on plans for the next film event.
We are bringing a ProDoula birth and postpartum doula training to Grand Rapids in January with the intent of adding more doulas to our team at that time. We are also bringing a HypnoBirthing training here in April in order to add a second instructor.
Our expansion also includes moving to a larger space. We are relocating from Cascade to the historic Kingsley Building in Eastown on March 1st. We are excited to be a part of Eastown and become active within the community there.
In 2017 we became a part of the Radio for Divas network with our own radio show airing daily. We expanded those into podcast episodes called Ask the Doulas that can be found on SoundCloud and iTunes. We answer questions from clients, friends, and the community about topics related to parenting, pregnancy, delivery, and postpartum. We talk to our own team of doulas and experts, as well as experts from the community to answer questions.

Businesses and nonprofits need to keep a lot of records: Sales, donations, addresses, historical data, and engagement benchmarks. When these records are off or unorganized, it can create a lot of extra work and soak up hours of time. In some cases, it can even put institutions in jeopardy.
