What did you eat? A delicious sample of Pesto Hummus!
What did you learn? As Pam walked me through her store, I was not surprised to find out that she carried food from 16 local farms. I was, however, surprised and impressed by the obvious emphasis on natural and organic products. Pam has worked in the food industry for years. The depth of her knowledge on food production makes for a meat department that has no artificial preservatives or unhealthy natural preservatives. I was fascinated to find a whole section of natural, raw pet foods.
Taking the Eat Local Challenge...has enablecd me to compile a list of places to go to get local, healthy foods. It has vastly increased my local larder so that I can cook a wider variety of foods.
Anything else? While I still believe in the power of politics and the political structure, the past couple of years have shown me that grass roots efforts are just as important in our pocketbooks as in our voting booths. In order to make my actions meet my words and ideals, I wanted to know where my dollars were going!
