What is the Eat Local Challenge? Did you know that the average ingredient in a North American meal travels over 1,500 miles to reach your plate? People all over the United States are starting to realize what that distance means in terms of food freshness, fuel usage and farming. Local First challenges you to spend two weeks eating locally (and to compare the taste and price of locally grown food to stuff grown over 1,500 miles away).
Join us at Grand River Grocery for LIVE! and Local, a day devoted to celebrating the faces and families behind Michigan products! Live cooking demonstrations and tasting by producers including: Great Lakes Tea and Spice Company, Treasured Thyme Dips, Mudlake Farm, Rowster Coffee, Farm Country Cheese, and award winning cheesmaker Barbara Jenness from Dancing Goat Creamery to name a few. Grand River Grocery will also be setting up a "mini farmer's market" in the Grand River Grocery parking lot showcasing farm fresh produce.
Join us as we sample food from over thirty area establishments! Restaurants and grocers will be paired with the farms they support. Let them show you how easy and delicious it is to eat locally grown! Don't miss one of the best social events of the fall!
